Christmas time and what to get the kayaker that has everything? That is the question. So I asked a few of my kayaking friends what they wanted for Christmas?
These guys and gals already have the basics and more so I was hoping for some random “fun” items that would make the eyes of any kayaker light up on Christmas morning. Here are my favorite top suggestions.
A waterproof video camera to capture each run down the river
The iON AIR PRO PLUS Wi-FI FULL HD SPORTS ACTION CAMCORDER is a good choice.
It supports video recording up to full HD, comes with several mounting options including a helmet mount and, most importantly is waterproof down to 30 feet.
The camera also features an optional Wi-Fi unit that allows for real-time shoot and share capabilities. This is cool because others can see exactly what you are recording as it happens.Check Price On Amazon
A new light weight, low profile PFD that fits.
A great PFD should be well constructed, light weight, have multiple adjustments so that it will fit, have pockets and provide some impact protection all while looking great on you! Not a lot to ask.
The NRS Zen Kayak Rescue Lifejacket fits these requirements and more. It is made of 500-denier Cordura outer fabric, has padded impact protection on the arm holes and sides to cushion against rocks and weighs in at 17.5 pounds.
I like that it has 4 side and 2 shoulder adjustments which help make it fit perfectly. This is also a PFD that has swift water rescue features build in including a carabiner attachment loop. There is also a large front pocket for storing gear, hand warmers and more.Check Price On Amazon
A drysuit that doesn’t leak, keeps you warm and isn’t skin tight.
Looking around we all decided that the O’Neill Boost Drysuit would be the idea drysuit to find under the Christmas tree.
This drysuit has a roomy design that allows for layering and no full body neoprene cramping your style. It has extra thick ankle and wrist seals guaranteed to keep water out.
The neck, which usually gives me trouble is chafe free smooth skin neoprene which keeps water out without being uncomfortable. It also comes with built in suspenders to keep things in place. It’s a great way to extend the kayaking season.Check Price On Amazon
Perhaps the best thing that you can get the kayaker in your life is the gift of memories. Get out there with him or her and enjoy the time that you spend together. Take pictures. Make a scrap book. Make friends but above all, enjoy your time together!
